Creativity, Imagination and Zombies

So, last friday, one of my most anticipated games of 2010, Dead Rising 2, came out here in europe.

Ladies and gentlemen, we may have one of the most creatively minded games of out times.

Yes, the plot is pretty basic. Yes, the gameplay mechanics are simple. Yes, the characters are rather straightforward (But very well acted, I must add).

But then... there is the weapon combination system.

Blue Castle, god bless you, you crazy mother fuckers. Who else would have thought to combine a mallet with an axe to create one of the most satisfying and brutal weapons ever devised?

But... one thing

Just where the hell is Chuck Greene getting all this Duck Tape from?

(Sorry about the lack of posts recently, I hope to get back on to the once-a-week track soonish!)

Till next time folks!

All the best, Adam

Multiplayer personality Cliche's - Sad but true

Multiplayer gaming has become the backbone force for installing fanbases in this current generation - Whether in Super Street Fighter IV, bodying every Ken that crosses your path or Frag-Tagging Carmines in Gears Of War (BTW - Carmine must die), Multiplayer has become the defining force.

However, like everything, there is a dark side

No, not that Dark Side - Unless we are talking about Soul Calliber IV.

I am of course, referring to the "Scrub", the "Salty player", The whine-filled kid who is A: Usually far too young to be playing the game at hand (If a parent ever reads this, buy games that your children are mature enough for) and B: Bitching and moaning about anybody who kills them, decreeing them "Cheap" or a "noob" of some variety (Gears of War 2 is my favourite for this - There are socalled Chainsaw, Frag-Tag, Spray and (My personal favourite) cover "noobs")

The following is a polite message to all of these people.

Please, shut the fuck up. There are two options here - Grow up, or stop playing videogames. As a Street Fighter player, I know that firsthand the best players find tricks and tips to win. Whining buggars call them cheap.

If something is truly "Broken" (Martyrdom comes to mind here, no arguments anyone here), Then it gets fixed (Again, Martyrdom being the poster-child here: From a perk to a deathstreak drop). In the case of sniper rifles, Shoryuken combos, chainsaws and grenade tagging, kindly shut the fuck up and grow up. We don't need another spoilt little shit clogging up Xbox Live/PSN/NWFC/Steam/Whatever your choice of online service.

Cheers for sticking through this rant that was throw together at the last minute. I promise a more thought out post next week.

All the best

Adam.

My relationship with the PSP

It's always the same thing. I see a PSP for a sensible price (£69.95 yesterday), I think "Hmm, is it time I nutted up and shut up?".
Yet...

Every time it's always the same answer: No.

I pass my eyes from the PSP in the display cabinet, to the UMD games - Only to be greeted with mediocre game collections, glorified PS2 titles and films that would make a Razzie winner blush (On the upside, all them are pre-owned and rather cheap). I turn around, looking desperately for something else to redeem it - Only to be greeted with the biggest kick in the teeth for the system: Memory cards. Silently, they sit there, mocking the convention of self saving cartridges, and adding unnecessary cost to the console. And the only solution to my issue is in the form of the PSPGO, better known as one of the biggest failures in recent gaming history - Minus the built in 16GB memory.

The best part of this story? Instead, I brought a copy of Shaq-Fu for the Mega Drive. True story. Picture proof:

So... What would push me over the edge?

Easy Sony: Release a PSP that HAS A UMD DRIVE and has a decent BUILT IN MEMORY (To it's praise, 16GB was a sensible amount for saves on the GO, not so much for full games though), actually get off your arse and find it a way to make it attractive for prospective developers and doesn't cost a fucking fortune at launch (£200 for the go? Screw that!).

IT'S BEEN FIVE YEARS, AND NOT ONE GAME HAS BEEN THE "CONSOLE SELLER". That's not good, in any way shape or form.

In short, This kid's sticking with Nintendo's handhelds - Unlike Sony, they actually appear to know what they are doing.

The first!

Hello all.

I shall start by introducing myself: My name is Adam Best, and I am 18 years old. I am a Student, studying at Totton College, hoping to break into the filmaking or Gaming industry.

During my childhood, one thing was always constant - a love for Video games. It started  on a NES, owned by my Mother with ExciteBike, Fuelled by a love for Pokemon and Gameboy, and now has influenced my choice of life, study and the people who I call friends and family. Currently, I kick ass and take names (in my mind) on Xbox Live, and on the NWFC.

...In short, as a gamer, there is nothing imparticulary special about me. If you where to see me walking down a street, I would easily fit the description at hand - Overweight, hair flowing in glorious golden locks, rather immature attitude and a sense of humour that embodies cynicism and black comedy rather well.

Basically, I'm a gamer.

I know, I am far from the first self described Gamer to take their hobby to the blogs, and I can't say I'm expecting to be the last either.

So, what would you catch me playing most of the time?

I have recently reinvigorated a real passion for 2D fighting games (Originally in the form of Super Smash Bros.), in the form of Street Fighter IV (And of course, the revision Super Street Fighter IV) in which I main Cammy. I would describe myself as slightly above average, so don't expect l33t pro play from me.

I have another love, in the form of the Horror game - Resident Evil is a favourite series, and for the current gen, Dead Space has earned a special place in my heart. In short, I am MASSIVE zombie fanboy (DEAD RISING = WIN)

Would you catch me playing the expected first/third person shooters of the current generation? Sure! I have a long running love affair with the Battlefield series, and have had my fair share of fun with Gears of War (Gun. With. CHAINSAWS).  I dislike the Call of Duty series, I prefer actually following the objectives (flamebait)  and using teamwork to win, so Battlefield and Left 4 Dead 1/2 are natural fits for me.

In future posts, I will talk about my daily tribulations as a gamer - I hope to Update at least once a week, and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them

Regards
